Daphne DOREL
ARTISTIC CAREER AND APPROACH
Lives and works in Paris, France
Daphné Dorel paints a strange, sometimes hallucinatory nature, transfigured by a unique use of color. The stridency of her colors evokes the euphoria that one feels when contemplating nature and the imminence of a radical rupture. The colors are animated by the strength of feelings, they go beyond the framework of naturalist vision.
A deliberate strangeness emanates from their unreality, triggering an inversion of perspective, as if some primal power were turning the world upside down.
For 15 years, Daphné Dorel has studied painting, its history, its iconography and its techniques with the passion of an archaeologist.
Learning age-old skills and practicing forgotten recipes have nourished his anthropological approach to painting. His deeply personal knowledge of ancient techniques and materials allows him to handle traditional mediums in new and creative ways.
Daphné Dorel's universe is powerful and unique, Greek and Byzantine influences meet Japanese and European painting, while her fascination with Giotto, Bosch, or Patinir is expressed in a surprising and delightful way.
